As the season turns so we turn to a new palette of colour and texture. The harvest we made in the summer, seemingly only a few weeks ago, of herbs and flowers, picked and stored carefully in our barn now feels ready for it's next display. Oregano, left to do it's own thing on a corner in our garden becomes a wild and naturalistic base and is the perfect foil to plum berries taken from a rambling rose. Julia has been busy again gathering armfuls of these seasonal delights, the studio once again a creative tangle and artistic mess of foliage, thorns and berries. I absolutely revel in this new phase and eagerly anticipate the results of whatever she's working...
I have a favourite dress. It's pretty simple but one that I love for the ease in which I can throw it on on a hot day and feel dressed in a second. It's always with me on trips partly because it always looks good and dosen't mind being scrunched into a bag at the last minute. On a recent visit to Kenya I met a wonderfully charismatic gentleman who happened to own a small tailoring business in the local village. His studio is heaving with textiles, garments in varying stages of life hang from the ceiling and down the walls and there's a constant whirring from the machines. It's a hive of activity that hums with life. It seemed...
